Is My Furniture and Property Covered by Unity?
No.
Unity Homes & Enterprise are responsible for insuring the building, but we do not insure your personal belongings.
We strongly recommend that all customers take out contents insurance to protect their possessions against accidental damage, theft, fire, flooding and other unexpected events.
Unity is responsible for insuring the structure of the building.
This includes items such as:
- Roofs
- Walls
- Windows
- Doors
- Ceilings
- Permanent fixtures and fittings
However, we do not insure your personal belongings.
This means that if your possessions are damaged, destroyed or stolen, you will normally be responsible for replacing them yourself unless you have contents insurance in place.
What Items Are Not Covered by Unity?
Unity does not provide insurance cover for:
- Furniture
- Sofas and beds
- Televisions and electrical items
- Mobile phones and tablets
- Clothing and footwear
- Carpets and rugs
- Jewellery and valuables
- Toys and games
- Decorations and personal improvements
- Any other personal possessions belonging to you or members of your household
Why Should I Have Contents Insurance?
Contents insurance can help protect you financially if your belongings are damaged due to:
- Fire
- Theft or burglary
- Flooding
- Escape of water
- Storm damage
- Accidental damage (depending on your policy)
Without contents insurance, you may have to pay the full cost of replacing your belongings.
Will Unity Replace My Belongings If There Is A Leak Or Repair Issue?
Not usually.
Even where a repair issue occurs, Unity is not automatically responsible for replacing damaged belongings.
Customers should contact their contents insurance provider in the first instance.
Any request for compensation would be considered separately and would require evidence that Unity had been negligent. Each case is assessed on its own circumstances.
Our Recommendation
We strongly recommend that all customers take out suitable contents insurance, regardless of the size or value of their belongings.
Even a small monthly premium can provide important protection and peace of mind should something unexpected happen.
