What is STAIRs?

The Social Tenants Access to Information Requirements, also known as STAIRs makes it easier for tenants to access key information about your home and the services you receive.

It provides more transparency for tenants and strengthens your ability to understand decisions and hold us to account.

Key points:

  • From October 2026, as a housing provider, Unity must publish key information about how we manage resident’s homes such as repairs, safety checks, and performance data
  • From April 2027, residents will be able to request specific information about their housing, and we must respond within 30 days
  • This requirement is similar to the Freedom of Information rules that apply to councils, and it now extends to housing associations and other registered providers
  • The aim is to increase openness, transparency, and accountability, helping residents better understand decisions and hold landlords to account.

Much of the information that the scheme requires us to publish is already available on the Unity website.
