About Us
Unity was formed in 1987 with the aim of building a strong, community housing association to meet the housing needs of black and minority ethnic communities throughout Leeds. Some 20 years on, we have a major BME role at a national and local strategic level whilst also continuing to be the lead BME housing association in Leeds delivering a range of housing and regeneration services.
We recognised from an early stage that good quality housing is only part of the answer to addressing the many needs of local communities. In the mid 1990's we began, in a small way, to use our financial and professional resources to support community initiatives. In 2000, we set up Unity Property Services, now renamed Unity Enterprise, to manage not-for-profit community business centres. Alongside it we have developed a team committed to increasing employment opportunities in the community by establishing a Job Shop, a proactive tenants into work project, building relationships with external organisations and accessing enterprise funding and support for those considering self employment and training.
Today, Unity is a thriving organisation totally committed to building strong sustainable communities through the delivery of the very best housing, social and employment opportunities.
